NeoRustic
Rama 3, Bangkok
Inspired by the owner’s fascination for Tuscan style interior decor, which is known for its warm and rustic country home ambient. To better suit the owners’ life style and to avoid out-of-date looking decor, we proposed a design solution that integrates the style with modern elements, balancing the overall rustic tone to a more contemporary ambient.
Due to townhome’s limited area, every square inch was accounted for its function, usability and comforts. The collections of loose furnitures and decorative items, i.e. dining table, chairs, chandelier, paintings etc., were precisely selected after thoroughly considering its form and materials to understand its effects and contributes to the overall ambient. We rechecked the selected items in drawing plans, 3D model and on-site, ensuring all items were in the right dimension to deliver the highest aesthetics and comforts possible.
The final design was including house extension. A 4 stories townhome bare shell, with existing layout plan for 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms, was transformed it into fully furnished Neo-Rustic style home. The combination of the iconic marble floor and aged wood plank with simplified classic elements and modern glossy materials blend into a unique yet elegant design. With entrance foyer, open kitchen and dining area, a living area, a home theatre, a study area for 3 children and a working desk for owner, 4 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms and a maid’s room with bathroom. For outdoor, we designed a 1.8m deep Koi pond and fountain equipped with full filter system, trees are plated along the fence for owners’ privacy.
This project was supervised with utmost attention in every detail. For example, apart from the walls in home theatre room which finished with handmade bricks, the entire interior walls were finished with textured stucco paint. Finishing such as stucco needs experienced worker with specific knowhow, the mixture of stucco paint need to apply immediately before it drys and must complete each wall as soon as possible to allow the stucco to dry evenly, as patches and uneven tone edge will occur if stucco is left dried at different appliances. For the unique Tuscan style floor pattern, the imported marble were cut to specific order from factory. The complexity of the pattern required highly skilled and experienced workers who took extreme care for preparation and installation of the material. Spray paint and coating for cabinets were purposely made in rustic appeal, with trials and errors and helpful ideas from painter team, we were able to achieve the paint effect which look aged, yet elegant and clean.
Neo-Rustic was one of the most challenging project for its design concept, the size of the site and attention required to all the details. But its finished outcome has proven to worth all the time and efforts spent by both the owner and Prestiga team.
